Rhinoplasty, often referred to as a nose job, is a surgical procedure that is performed to change the size, shape, and overall appearance of the nose. When performed by a highly skilled and experienced facial plastic surgeon, rhinoplasty can provide beautiful results that look incredibly natural.
While rhinoplasty can provide amazing results, it can take some time to see your full results. This is because a lot of the work performed during the procedure can be intense which can lead to some deep internal swelling that will take time to full subside. Here is what you can expect from your rhinoplasty recovery.
Rhinoplasty Recovery Timeline
Day One
Once your rhinoplasty is complete, the area will be wrapped and a nasal splint may be used to provide support. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are to be expected. Medication may be provided to help minimize discomfort. It is important to rest during this time.
Day Two
You should be able to resume showering, though it is important that you keep as much water as possible away from the surgical site. Most pain can discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter medication at this point.
Week One
If a nasal stint was used, it will now be removed. There may still be some visible bruising around the nose and underneath the eyes. Most of your normal activities can be resumed at this point, though you should still avoid strenuous activities like heavy lifting and exercising.
Week Two
Any visible bruising around the area should be gone. A majority of the swelling around the nose should subside, but some deep internal swelling will persist for some time.
Weeks Four to Six
You should be able to resume working out, including cardiovascular activity, and weightlifting. With a majority of the swelling gone, you should notice your new nose has a more defined shape and overall appearance.
Three to Six Months
Any sensitivity, numbness, or other odd sensations around your nasal area should be gone and your nose should have a relatively normal appearance that you feel comfortable with. Some deep internal swelling will persist for some time.
One Year
The healing process should be complete a year or so following your rhinoplasty procedure. Any deep internal swelling should have fully subsided, and the full results of your procedure should be visible. If you are still experiencing any issues like pain, bruising, swelling, or discomfort, contact your plastic surgeon to schedule a consultation to examine the issues.
