This patient underwent bilateral ear lobe repair with Dr. Tolan, following the use of gauges. This is becoming an increasingly popular restorative treatment in our office. Many of our patients put plugs in their ears as teenagers, which causes stretching and expanding of the skin. To repair the gauged earlobe, the stretched, excess skin must first be removed and the remaining skin re-positioned to give the earlobe a more natural shape. To minimize discomfort during the procedure, gauged earlobe repair is typically performed under local anesthesia in our office. For some patients we also perform a laser treatment to create an even more smooth look to the ear lobe. The procedure often takes about 45 minutes per ear. Ears can usually be re-pierced once the earlobe is fully healed in 4-6 months.
